When the British came in the nineteenth century it was little more than a pearl fishing village, it was, of course, the discovery of oil that spurred its phenomenal growth
And phenomenal it has been, at the start of the century the country had not much more than 30,000 inhabitants.
In 2004 the population of Doha was 340,000. It has almost certainly grown since then; the population of Qatar has virtually doubled in that time.
And the construction is everywhere to be watched with cranes working and changing the way the city used to be, to become similar to any modern city (my point of view)
